St Michael’s Primary School
Deniliquin

Focus:
During 2010 St Michael’s School will endeavour to embrace Information and Technology in the teaching and learning, placing particular emphasis on the use of the interactive whiteboards.
Our aim is to use the interactive whiteboards in our classes and have particular focal points or websites that will enhance the students’ learning. To this end, we will have a particular focus each week and bring to our weekly staff meetings our findings to share with colleagues. This sharing of knowledge, explicit instructions and demonstrations will help improve our competence which will enhance learning outcomes.
During Term 2 we will dedicate a specific time in our staff meetings for IT. Rebecca Dunn (IT teacher) will proved support in the implementation of this plan. Rebecca’s role will be to work with teachers both in and out of their classroom to help familiarise them with the multi-faceted use of their interactive boards. This will then lead on to integrating IT into teaching and learning in all KLAs.

- St Michael’s staff and students
- St Michael’s parents
- Wilcannia – Forbes Diocesan IT staff
- Professional Development Day: Promethean Planet with Eliza in Hay

- Learning Support Teacher: Sarah Catt
- Special Education Teacher: Marg Wettenhall
- Computer programs purchased:
o Fitzroy Readers interactive program
o Sound Way interactive program
o Clicker 5 interactive program

Impediments:
- Speed and memory of computers
- Speed of internet connection
- Unavailability of Diocesan IT support staff to correct problems
- Lack of inservicing opportunities
- Time/management significantly inadequate to maintain all computers in working order

Action Plan:
Each classroom teacher will be released weekly to work with Rebecca Dunn (IT teacher) to familiarise themselves with the workings of the Promethean ActivBoard. Furthermore, teachers will have the opportunity to find suitable sites that support their teaching and learning in the classroom. It is hoped that by exploring different sites, teachers will be able to align presentations, information and interactive sites that will enhance students learning and outcomes.

Here is our photo presentation from LTLL Midpoint meeting in Hay. We believe in IT!

September Update!!

We are continuing to have Rebecca our IT teacher work with teachers on IT release days and this will continue into Term Four. Year 1/2 have been enjoying using the program Clicker 5 and Kindergarten have just come on board with Mathletics so they are enjoying navigating the wbsite. In Term Four our class programs are going to be put on the server and this will make them more accessible.
